Venice Biennale Talk Series
‘You (you).’ , a major solo exhibition by leading Hong Kong artist Lee Kit co-presented by M+ and Hong Kong Arts Development Council, will open on 1 June at the Venice Biennale. In conjunction with our participation at this anchor event, M+ is hosting a series of free talks at the Hong Kong Space Museum to enhance the public’s understanding of Venice Biennale.

The series already kicked off on 3 May with a packed house of art lovers learning the history and importance of the Venice Biennale. The second talk to be hosted by curator, writer and educator Dr Paul O’Neill on 14 June will extend the discussion to the broader biennial phenomenon, and the concept of curating within this context. And finally, there will be a sharing session on 22 June with current and previous Hong Kong participants in the Venice Biennale, as a way to summarise the experience and gather thoughts for future participation.

Register now to be part of the world’s most important visual arts events before these popular talks are full!
    The Curatorial Constellation:
The Impact of Biennials, Durational Approaches to Curatorial Practice and Co-Habitational Time

    Date: 14 June (Friday)
    Time: 7:00–9:00pm
    Speaker: Dr Paul O’Neill

Paul O’Neill is a curator, writer and educator who has written extensively on curating, biennial culture and exhibition-making etc. In his talk, O’Neill will examine the emergence of a discursive field relating to biennial curating and the implied impacts. A “durational” processes to public art curating and commissioning have emerged as an alternative to nomadic, itinerant and short-term approaches in recent years; by looking at such phenomenon, O’Neill will explore how “the curatorial” can be conceived of as a constellation, resisting the stasis of the curator-artist-spectator triumvirate and supporting more semi-autonomous and self-determined aesthetic and discursive forms of practice.

Looking Back: Hong Kong in Venice
