WKCDA website facelift

The new WKCDA website soft launched last month marks a significant move forward in the development of the WKCDA and reflects how the project has progressed from the planning stage to a phase of real actions – the launch of design competitions for various venues, start of construction works, a rapidly growing M+ collection as well as an increasingly diverse range of popular events and exhibitions happening on and off the WKCD site.

The new website comes with a short and easy-to-remember URL westkowloon.hk, carrying a contemporary and user-friendly design highlighting vivid images and increasingly video, as well as pioneering features making the whole browsing experience more user friendly. It aims to provide the people of Hong Kong with a greater understanding of what the district will add to the city and provide a tool to grow audiences and increase engagement with the community for the local arts and cultural sector as a whole.

A responsive web design provides an optimal viewing experience — easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling—across a wide range of devices, from mobile phones and iPads to desktop computer monitors.

The use of overview pages offers a way to highlight different stories and content that is interesting and appealing, providing a quick snapshot of what’s happening while the keyword search engine keeps all the information at your fingertips with search results presented to you by categories.

The new ‘What’s On’ feature allows us to list current and forthcoming events, not only organised by the Authority, but also those presented by other venue hirers at the WKCD site, and we can also display works from the growing M+ collection.

However, no modern website is ever truly finished and the new website will continue to undergo further refinement as we add additional functionality and develop new content.
